1964 Studebaker Excalibur
In 1963 Studebaker needed a surprise for the new season. Designer Brooks Stevens was given the job, he had always been fascinated by the Mercedes SSK from the late 1920s. So he created the Excalibur, a kind of retro SSK, fitted with the Avanti’s R2 V8 with a Paxton supercharger, onto a production Daytona chassis.
The result is a unique modern classic, capable of 0 to 100 in 6 seconds, outrunning the GTE Ferrari of the same year.
